Summary

Minimum Starting Salary: $19.00 per hour

 

Under basic supervision, collects and analyzes Water/Wastewater (W/WW) samples for process control and regulatory compliance for the Water Utility Services Department (WUSD).

 

Primary Duties

 

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Collects and analyzes W/WW samples for process control and regulatory compliance; conducts standard and specialized chemical and bacteriological tests on samples; operates specialized tools and equipment according to training and skill level; duties will vary according to job assignment.

• Follows lab procedures to assure the quality and accuracy of the laboratory tests; calibrates, operates, and maintains laboratory instruments; informs managers of anomalous test results and data trends.

• Cleans and maintains work areas, tools, and equipment, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; maintains daily logs and records for regulatory compliance.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

• Performs other related and assigned duties as required.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related science field

• One year of Water/Wastewater lab experience;

• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

• Equivalency: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology or a related science field.

• OR 5 years of experience of Water/Wastewater Lab experience.

 

• Valid Texas Driver’s License

• Class D Water License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 1 year of hire

• Class C Surface Water License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 2.5 years of hire

• According to the needs additional training and certifications may be required

 

Physical Demands

 

Medium Work:

 

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
