Primary Duties

 

Salary is $60,938.50 and depends on qualifications

 

As a member of the Infrastructure team, under general supervision, provides leadership and vision to deliver enterprise network solutions for the City of Waco. Highly motivated, passionate to learn new infrastructure technologies, strong written and communication skills, team player, with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In this role, you will be working in a fast-paced environment as a visible contributor, delivering on our commitments to departments. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver, comfortable with providing subject matter expertise and rapidly responding to escalated issues.

 

Essential Functions

 

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Establishes networking environment by designing network configuration; directing and executing network infrastructure; defining, documenting, and enforcing standards.

• Maximizes network performance by monitoring and automation; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with departments and vendors on network optimization.

• Secures network infrastructure by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access. Be able to look at complicated network systems to find flaws or room for improvement. Proactively identify opportunities for technology advancement.

• Plans and coordinates the implementation of network technologies/solutions in support of defined requirements generated by internal customers and growth demands. Plans and executes highly complex network upgrade and migration activity.

• Performs analysis and diagnosis of highly complex networking problems.

• Generates operational documentation, including a detailed test plan for highly complex networks.

• Assists with deployment and strategy of tools and related Network Management Systems. Helps with developing tools set to manage and maintain enterprise networks.

• Produces method of procedures that demonstrates understanding of changes proposed and how the change will be executed with minimal service impact.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work- related issues and City information.

• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

• Performs other assigned or related duties as required.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Information Technology is required

• Three years of progressive experience in network infrastructure support

• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

Preferred:

 

• Microsoft, Cisco, and other professional IT certifications are desirable.

 

Physical Demands

 

Light work:

 

• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
