Summary

 

Minimum Staring Salary: $17.00 per hour

 

Under basic supervision, performs customer service functions for clients of the Water Utility Services Department (WUSD).

 

Primary Duties

 

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Provides customer services for WUSD clients, and processes account payments from new customers, service requests, and service charges according to City policies and procedures.

• Processes monetary transactions, including cash and credit cards. Responsible for balancing payments taken, maintaining cashier drawer, and preparing deposit records.

• Collection activities include but are not limited to contacting customers with declined and/or returned payments and attempting to collect declined and/or returned payment amounts, negotiating a payment plan, and/or advising of potential service disconnection. Collection activity may also include initiation of service disconnection.

• Maintains records of contacts and attempted contacts with collection account customers as well as records of any payments collected from the customer.

• Creates work orders, for reconnection of service or disconnection of service because of collection activities.

• Enters and verifies data, processes documents and transactions, resolves customer service issues and provides customer services by resolving unusual situations and decisions.

• Provides prompt, courteous, and accurate service to the public with WUSD services questions, requests for information, and complaints to maintain positive customer service relations.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

• Will be required to respond after-hours, including holidays and weekends, and in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

• Perform other related and assigned duties as required.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Two years’ customer service, cash handling, collections, or bookkeeping experience.

• Most possess a valid Texas Driver’s License

 

Preferred:

 

• Bilingual Skills

 

Physical Demands

 

Sedentary Work:

 

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
