Primary Duties

We are looking for a results-oriented Director of Development not constrained by conventional thinking who is willing to explore and develop innovative ideas. Do you enjoy finding unique ways for generating funds for an expansion project? Are you interested in the Public Safety history of the State of Texas? Do you excel at fostering relationships with corporate, governmental, foundation, and private donors? You may be the one!

 

Our Director of Development for the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame reports to the Assistant City Manager and may work with a development consulting entity on capital campaigns, special projects, memberships, affinity programs, planned and annual giving, grants, licensing, and international appeals. This position will specifically be responsible for building the program to generate revenue for the Capital Improvement Project to build out the new portion of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame museum and modernize the remaining facility.

 

The salary for this position starts at $130,000 annually depending on qualifications. This will be a 2-year, limited term position that may be evaluated for an extension.

 

This position closes on June 30, 2022. Virtual first round interviews will take place the first week of July. Second round in-person interviews will be held on July 13, 2022.

 

Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Donor/Membership Management: Develops, coordinates, and implements comprehensive development strategies; researches prospects, develops and maintains relationships with foundations, corporations, and individuals for annual giving, capital projects, endowments, planned giving, exhibitions, and special projects; maintains donor/membership database reports and files;

• Grants Management: Develops and maintains grants deadline calendar; develops programs consistent with grant guidelines; projects revenue and developing budgets; writes grant applications; establishes reporting and evaluation systems for grants and projects.

• Establishes, equips, and efficiently operates a development office.

• Analyzes needs/goals and assembles a tailored and prioritized portfolio of programs and support materials for the department.

• Develops prioritized development strategies, timetables, revenue/expense budgets and performance indicators.

• Establishes relationships and solicits support from corporate, governmental, foundation, and private donors.

• Builds, trains, and manages a fundraising committee for the Board.

• Schedules, tracks, and writes proposals, grants, and follow-up reports.

• Works collaboratively and with mutual respect in a team environment and in cooperation with the Assistant City Manager and the Director of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff.

• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive development issues, work-related issues, and City information.

• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or Public Administration, or a related field

• Five years’ experience in development programs

• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

Physical Demands

 

Sedentary Work:

 

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
