Primary Duties

Under basic supervision, leads a work crew operating specialized trucks and heavy motorized equipment used for a variety of job functions in the Public Works Department (PWD).

 

Essential Functions

 

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Coordinates the activities of a work crew repairing and maintaining streets, roadways and infrastructure; estimates materials required for assignments, stages materials and equipment, assigns work and operates specialized trucks and heavy motorized equipment; duties may vary according to job assignment.

• Inspects vehicles, equipment and tools; repairs, maintains and adjusts equipment; maintains daily work logs; trains work crew and controls work projects to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed; establishes the work zone and enforces compliance with all safety regulations and PWD procedures; recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Two years’ experience in heavy equipment operations, preferably with the City of Waco.

• Must possess a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement.

• Special training and licensing may be required.

 

Physical Demands

 

Heavy Work:

 

• Exerting in excess of 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Must be capable of performing confined space entry.
