Summary

 

Under moderate supervision, performs administrative duties in the processing of Human Resources (HR) forms and documents and provides assistance to City employees and the general public.

 

Primary Duties

 

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Processes and performs complex data entry in Human Resource Information System (HRIS) for all personnel actions including new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, demotions, salary increases, and other miscellaneous changes to the employee database.

• Reviews, evaluates, and checks employee benefit eligibility with new employees and ensures that benefits enrollment is completed accurately.

• Examines documents submitted by assigned department for completeness, accuracy, reasonability, and timeliness of personnel data in compliance with city rules and regulations and state and federal law.

• Maintains, monitors, and organizes filing systems; establishes, updates, purges, and indexes information to provide organization and retrieval of information.

• Processes background checks for volunteers and interns in accordance with standard operating procedures.

• Answers telephone calls, takes messages, and routes appropriately.

• Prioritizes tasks to meet assigned deadlines.

• Acts as a backup for the front desk.

• May be responsible for specific duties related to benefits, compensation, and/or HR related events.

• Performs duties in accordance with City policy and procedures and within the scope of authority; duties may vary according to work assignment.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains professionalism and confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

• Performs other related and assigned duties as required.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• High School diploma or GED

• Two years of data entry experience

 

Preferred:

 

• Valid Texas Driver’s License

 

Physical Demands

 

Sedentary Work:

 

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
