Primary Duties

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $22.00/hour – Depends on Qualifications

 

Under basic supervision, registers, verifies and tracks the status of registered sex offenders for the Waco Police Department (WPD).

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

• Initial registration of sex offenders upon release from prison, offenders placed on probation, or moving to our city from other jurisdictions.

• Prepare Registration Packet. This includes, but is not limited to, collecting fingerprints, oral DNA swabs, and digital photography of all offender tattoos, entering offender information into Texas Department of Public Safety’s secure web site, and completing multiple government documents.

• Yearly, quarterly, or monthly verification of sex offenders as directed per state law.

• Update all changes in status for sex offenders as outlined by Chapter 62 of the Criminal Code of Procedures.

• Tracks status of sex offenders, including knowledge of their location and that they remain current with their registry responsibilities.

• Maintain working relationship with patrol officers in order to facilitate Compliance checks on offenders.

• Must maintain detailed record of all correspondence with offenders and accurately document work product to verify infractions that could result in criminal violations.

• Obtain all information and documentation prior to file being submitted for criminal charges.

• Prepare all registration documents to be submitted to court.

• Testify in District Court on Fail to Comply investigations.

• Testify in Probation and Parole hearings.

• Maintains communication with state and federal probation and parole officers, other municipalities as well as various court systems to obtain legal documents.

• Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and concerned citizens by demonstrating a knowledgeable, courteous, and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens regarding registered offenders residing in their neighborhoods.

• Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.

• Completes monthly TCIC/NCIC validation reports.

• Presents programs of “Duties of SO Registrations” to Citizens on Patrol, Citizens Police Academy, law enforcement in-service trainings, and to new recruits of the law enforcement academy. Available for programs for other associations or city departments.

• Performs other related and assigned duties as required.

• May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.

• Driving is essential.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

 

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required;

• AND four (4) years’ experience in criminal justice records programs.

• Must complete Police Department Background Packet

• Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening.

• Must be able to pass a polygraph.

• Possess a valid Driver’s License.

• Technical training and certifications are required, including Telecommunication Certification for access to National/Texas Crime Information Centers (NCIC/TCIC) within one year of hire date.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

ALL APPLICANTS – Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.

 

Applicant must meet CJIS requirements related to system access. By applying for this job, you are subject to a state and national criminal history check of the following:

 

• Felony Convictions

• Felony Deferred Adjudication

• Class A & B Misdemeanor Convictions

• Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication

• Any open arrest for any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)

• Any Family Violence Convictions

 

State mandated eligibility for this position requires the applicant to be:

 

• A United States Citizen

• Possess an Honorable Discharge from branch of Military in which applicant served, if applicable.

• Submit to a background investigation as required by state law.

• Provide truthful and accurate information at all times during the application process. Any dishonesty found during the application process will result in an automatic disqualification and deem applicant permanently unsuitable for hire at any other time.

 

Physical Demands

 

Sedentary Work:

 

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

• Sedentary work involves a stationary position most of the time.
