GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Manager of Food Services in the planning, organization, and operation of the campus Food Services Department. The Assistant Manager will oversee the daily responsibilities of cashiers at each of the campus cafes, as well as take the lead on logistics of catering events and create appealing dessert items. This person will also stand in temporarily in the Manager’s absence. This position will receive general direction from the Manager of Food Services and exercises some support staff supervision.
REGULAR WORK HOURS: All employees are required to work varying shifts between the hours of
7:00 AM – 7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Friday.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or GED, with some additional certification training in the Food Services industry.
Experience: More than three years of work experience in the food service industry, with at least one year of experience as a supervisor.
Special Requirements: Must possess, or have the ability to obtain food handler’s license within first 14 days of employment. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College’s automobile insurance policy.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 2. English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 3. Budget and cash handling practices. 4. Customer experience principles. 5. Industry standards in food preparation, food storage, refrigeration, and sanitation. 6. Equipment used in institutional food service and store keeping. 7. Effective leadership practices. Skills in: 8. Record keeping methods. 9. Reading and basic math. 10. Time management and organization. 11. Prioritizing projects and multitasking. 12. Problem solving. Ability to: 13. Operate computer and office equipment. 14. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 15. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 16. Handle customer interactions and inquiries effectively. 17. Work independently and as a team member. 18. Use good judgment. 19. Effectively supervise the daily operations of the Food Services Department.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Restricted-Sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard-Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors are present. There is occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency and severity are limited.
