GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Instruct courses as assigned in the PTA program at the level of required physical therapist assistant knowledge and skill (includes lecture and lab); serve as the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) including developing fieldwork sites, maintaining CAPTE standards, and conferencing with fieldwork educators and students during placements to ensure success; curriculum development and assessment; student recruitment and retention, including academic advising for program majors and pre-majors selecting appropriate textbooks for program courses; maintaining office hours; participate in college committees facilitating community awareness of the program; participate in professional development and evaluation; work across departments to develop student potential Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Program Director of the Physical Therapy Assistant Programs and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Earned Associate Degree as a physical therapist assistant or professional degree as a physical therapist from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist assistant or physical therapist. Meets at least one of the following: Two years of clinical practice experience as a Center Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE) or Clinical Instructor (CI) in physical therapy, OR two years’ experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a PT or PTA program
Special Requirement: Must be licensed or licensure eligible in the state of Texas as a PT or PTA. Must obtain Texas license as condition of employment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical therapy or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience: Prior teaching experience in a physical therapist assistant/physical therapist academic program or equivalent coursework.

Knowledge of: 1. Clinical education requirements for PTA programs, including securing and maintaining clinical affiliation sites, use of PTA MACS, scheduling, etc. 2. Subject matter and instructional design and materials for PTA program courses. 3. Curriculum design and revision, taking into consideration accreditation requirements. 4. Relationship and role delineation between PT’s and PTA’s and other aspects of the Texas Physical Therapy Practice Act and Rules. 5. Student advising. Ability to: Provide instruction for assigned PTA courses, lecture and lab. 6. Coordinate the clinical component of the PTA program, including student placement and scheduling; maintain appropriate working relationships with clinical facilities that provide student affiliations. 8. Evaluate student knowledge and skills. 9. Develop and assess curriculum. 10. Participate in professional development. 11. Promote awareness of the PTA program in the community. 12. Advise students and participate in recruitment and retention activities. 13. Support and participate in activities of the college. 14. Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. 15. Utilize a personal computer and other technology for communicating, maintaining records, developing and presenting course materials, etc. 16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips. e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal hazard/exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
