GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provide case management services to McLennan Community College students who have been referred to the C.A.R.E. (Campus Assessment Response & Evaluation) Team. Provide ongoing assessment and support to C.A.R.E. students and educational programs to faculty/staff/students. This position receives general supervision from the Director, Counseling Center exercises no supervision.

NOTE:  This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Special Requirements: Licensed by the State of Texas as any of the following: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-Associate).  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Two years of professional experience in case management providing assessment of client needs and linking clients with systems that provide services, resources, and opportunities to meet the client’s individual needs. Previous work experience in a community college or university setting. Previous work experience in working mental health crises.  

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of:  1. Case management and crisis intervention services. 2. Trauma informed care principles. 3. The spectrum of mental illnesses, symptomatology, psychotropic medications, and the social, medical, and environmental factors that impact individuals with mental illness. 4. Stressors affecting college students and effective supportive services to address these stressors. 5. Appropriate procedures to follow for students exhibiting a danger to themselves or others. 6. HIPAA and FERPA laws associated with crisis intervention services. 7. Campus and Community resources. Skills in: 8. Mental Health case management skills, including but not limited to active listening, empathy, clear communication, calmness under pressure/patience, critical thinking, commitment to continued professional growth, advocacy, self-awareness, and multicultural competency. 9. Effective and persuasive presentation techniques, especially with regards to presenting sensitive topics such as suicide prevention. 10. Mediation and conflict resolution. 11. Proficiency with software and database programs to access files and document services appropriately. 12. Effective program development, marketing, and evaluation. Ability to: 13. Effectively communicate with the diverse student population at MCC. 14. Interact with students who are potentially of harm to self or others to maintain individual and campus safety. 15. Accurately assess student needs, establish a comprehensive plan and link students with systems of support to best meet the individuals identified needs, and monitor progress. 16. Effectively provide educational training and support for faculty/staff/students including suicide awareness and prevention. 17. Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with federal, state, and MCC requirements. 18. Organize and prioritize work assignments. 19. Understand and comply with MCC & C.A.R.E. Team policies and procedures.  

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; respond to crisis situations after-hours as necessary. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting.  At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.
