To perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting and repair task on HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, buildings, sidewalks, and campus equipment. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and exercises no supervision. NOTE:  This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.



Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: More than one year of work experience in a utilities and/or general building maintenance/construction environment.

Special Requirement:  Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College’s automobile insurance policy.



Certifications: Preference will be given to those with obtained license/certifications in any of the following areas: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building construction.



Knowledge of: 1. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes, ordinances, and laws. 2. Personal protective equipment and safe work practices and procedures. 3. Methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing system installation, maintenance, and repair. 4. Operation and maintenance of a variety of power and hand tools. 5. Computerized building automatic control systems. Skills in: 6. Troubleshooting and repair of HVAC controls. 7. Maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment, including kitchen, laundry, science lab, and medical. 8. Repairing and adding to electrical distribution circuits in campus buildings. 9. Computer use for work order systems and building automation systems. Ability to: 10. Safely operate sewer machines, blowtorches, welders, forklift, personal lift, power tools and a variety of power and hand tools. 11. Understand and follow oral and written instruction. 12. Work independently with little or no instruction. 13. Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and sketches. 14. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 15. Communicate effectively with coworkers, faculty, staff, and administration.



Exertive-Significant exertion on a daily basis.  Awkward positions and sustained activities require strength.  Frequent moderate lifting is required. Continual Exposure for Recurring Risk-At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly there may be exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, requiring additional safety precautions.
