GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Develops and enhances relationships with students, staff, and faculty to support student enrollment, persistence, and success at McLennan Community College. Helps first-time-in-college students navigate through the challenges of higher education by guiding, coaching, mentoring, and advocating for personal and academic success; and connecting them to career development and academic planning, academic supports, and other resources. Provides early intervention resources and strategies to students with identified risk factors and who are referred through the Early Alert system. Mentors and coaches assigned student population which could include, but not limited to, First Generation Scholars, Men of Color, Foster Care, Restart, and Academic Suspension. This position receives general direction from the Associate Director of Success Coach Services and exercises no supervision. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three (3) or more years of professional work experience in education, student or social services, or closely related field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Master’s Degree in higher education, student affairs administration, counseling or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Experience: More than one year of professional work experience in higher education, student services, academic support, counseling, or closely related field. Best practices and strategies in assisting underserved student populations and for interventions with at-risk student populations. 3. Pertinent federal and state laws, college policies and procedures. 4. Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, and Advising Services. Skills in: 5. Interpersonal relationships; establishing and maintaining collaborative, caring, and inclusive relationships with students and colleagues. 6. Active listening; empowering and respecting diverse perspectives presented by students and colleagues. 7. Problem solving; equitably serving unique needs of students and colleagues. 8. Organization; managing multiple complex tasks concurrently. 9. Leadership; serving students and colleagues with professionalism and integrity. 10. Communication; clearly, concisely, and assertively interacting and collaborating, both orally and in writing, with students and colleagues. 11. Case management; managing and maintaining a caseload of students and up-to-date student records. 12. Program development; planning, marketing, budgeting, evaluating, and reporting on programs. 13. Designing, developing, and delivering workshops and online training to students, faculty, and staff on a variety of topics. 14. Microsoft applications, Adobe, and internal software. Ability to: 15. Serve students respectfully and professionally, maintaining appropriate boundaries with students. 16. Determine specific needs of individual students in a variety of situations and environments, and provide appropriate support and resources. 17. Maintain confidentiality and sensitive information. 18. Work some non-traditional work hours. WORKING CONDITIONS: Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting.
